UHF Launches Community Health Outreach to Improve Primary Care Access in Cameroon

ree

Unity and Hope Foundation has officially launched a new community health outreach initiative aimed at expanding primary healthcare access for families in underserved communities across Cameroon. The initiative, which began this month, brings screening services, maternal health support, and health education directly to households that live far from local clinics.

During the first week of outreach, the UHF team reached more than three hundred individuals with services that included blood pressure checks, diabetes screening, vital signs assessments, maternal checkups, and medication support for people living with chronic conditions. Community members also participated in health talks that focused on nutrition, hygiene, and common misconceptions about illness.

According to community health workers, many families in these areas had gone months or even years without a proper medical consultation due to long travel distances, transport costs, and limited clinic capacity. By bringing care into the community, UHF aims to reduce preventable health complications and ensure early detection of conditions that often go unnoticed.

The outreach also provided targeted support for pregnant women and new mothers. Expectant mothers received antenatal counseling, danger sign education, and referrals for facility based care when needed. New mothers received breastfeeding support and newborn care guidance.

The success of the first phase has strengthened UHF’s commitment to expanding health access in regions that are often overlooked. Plans are underway to scale the outreach to additional communities and integrate mental health awareness sessions, youth health programs, and training for local volunteers.

Unity and Hope Foundation will continue to prioritize community centered care, ensuring that families receive the support they need to stay healthy, informed, and empowered.

A full report on the outreach will be shared in the coming weeks.
